Every year at the start of the offseason, coaching changes cause some top prospects to decommit. With Darian DeVries leaving West Virginia, some of their class of 2025 players opted to reopen their respective recruitments. One of them is Kelvin Odih, a consensus four-star and top-100 player.

Odih is a guard/wing known for his athleticism and motor, making him a legit impact contributor to watch out of the gate. He has an improving shot and overall offensive game, but Odih is already a sound defender and rebounder, giving him a high floor as a college basketball prospect.

After decommitting from West Virginia, a few teams have reportedly emerged as contenders for Odih’s services. Here’s a closer look at how he’d fit with them.

Louisville Cardinals

The Cardinals reloaded on the wings in the portal, landing Isaac McKneely (Virginia), Ryan Conwell (Xavier), and Kennesaw State transfer and CUSA Rookie of the Year sharpshooter, Adrian Wooley. Odih likely won’t be ahead of any of them in the rotation so it may come down to whether he can get minutes ahead of returning forward Khani Rooths, or risk being at the back-end of the depth chart.

St. John’s Red Storm

Odih is the type of player that Coach Rick Pitino loves, a physical wing that can defend. The question here is whether he’d have a real shot at being in the rotation? The Red Storm landed key transfers, including Oziyah Sellers and Bryce Hopkins, while bringing in four-star prospect Imran Suljanovic. If playing time is a factor, it would be a definite risk to pick them.

Utah Utes

The strategy for the Utes has been to get a couple of proven scorers (Terrence Brown and Don McHenry), along with a few wings with high-potential, looking for larger roles. Guys like Elijah Moore, Jahki Howard, and Seydou Traore will be battling with Odih for minutes but Utah could still have room for all. But will the prospect be willing to risk playing for a first-year head coach in Alex Jensen?
