One of the best New York-based prospects in the 2025 NCAA Basketball recruiting class is Kayden Mingo, a 6'2 combo guard. He's been one of the top rising players in the past few months, with his two-way potential and overall toughness that makes him highly appealing.

Mingo went from a consensus three-star ranking to now in the top 50 in the latest updates in some recruiting services, with an improving offensive game being rewarded. And now, one of four teams will land him at the beginning of November.

Which of them is the best potential fit for Mingo? Here's a closer look at his options' current roster situations.

Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia has a lot of underclassmen depth on its roster, including key sophomores, Silas Demary Jr. and Blue Cain. Depending on the impact freshmen guards Jordyn Kee and Savo Drezgic has, Mingo could be entering a logjam situation with the SEC program.

Penn State Nittany Lions

The Lions are technically the closest option for Mingo if he wanted to stay close to home. They also will be losing star guard Ace Baldwin after this season, creating a situation where Mingo could be the PG of the team if he were to pick them. At the same time, Penn State could be rebuilding for the future and winning in the Big Ten could be a struggle if the recruiting doesn't improve.

Virginia Tech Hokies

The Hokies have addressed the frontcourt so far in the 2025 class with two commits (Sin'Cere Jones and Christian Gurdak). But the perimeter is starting over after losing starters Hunter Cattoor and Sean Pedulla this offseason. Temple transfer Hysier Miller is only around for one year so this is an option where Mingo could have a large role out the gate. And based on Coach Mike Young's history of development, it could be a ideal match.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Speaking of development, one of the best in NCAA Basketball at it has been head coach Steve Forbes at Wake. The two projected starting guards (Hunter Sallis and Cameron Hildreth) are seniors and will be gone. Sophomore transfers Ty-Laur Johnson and Davin Cosby could be the key guys after that so the possibility of a logjam could occur for Mingo to consider.

On paper, Penn State and Virginia Tech stand out when it comes to offering playing time. But any of these teams could win out for Mingo's services. We'll find out soon.
