One of the top prospects from the DMV area in the 2025 NCAA Basketball recruiting class is Cam Ward, a 6'7 combo forward from Upper Marlboro, Maryland. He's an athletic forward that has great measurables and the size to be a four-man. Most of his offensive work comes from around the paint but with a growing offensve game, has a high ceiling as a long-term prospect.

The top-100 forward prospect is reportedly down to just four teams for his services, including several local options. Which among the group of teams is the best potential fit? Here's a closer look at Ward's contenders.

Kansas State Wildcats

Coach Jerome Tang and the Wildcats went crazy in the transfer portal this offseason, landing senior forwards, Achor Achor and Coleman Hawkins. Both will be gone after this season, along with David N'Guessan. There's definite room for someone like Ward to come in, as long as the following transfer class doesn't bury him in the depth chart.

Maryland Terrapins

The Terps do have a four-star forward commit in Marcus Johnson, who's part of the 2025 class, but there's still a need for more frontcourt help, with Jordan Geronimo and Julian Reese leaving after this season. Regardless of what happens with 5-star freshman center Derik Queen, Ward has the intangibles and toughness to fit with Coach Kevin Willard. His being a local target is also important for the program to win.

Michigan State Spartans

Coach Tom Izzo and the Spartans got on the board this past week with four-star small forward, Jordan Scott. Ward would be a clear power forward at this option but if Xavier Booker goes pro early, there would be room for him out the gate.

Virginia Cavaliers

Coach Tony Bennett can lay to claim of being the best coach in the DMV area and that could be important in this recruitment. However, besides having four-star freshman Jacob Cofie on the roster, they have Duke transfer and former 5-star prospect, TJ Power. Unless he's a possible NBA player, there's a logjam for Ward to deal with at UVA.
