NCAA Basketball: Top 10 candidates for 2024-25 Player of the Year
By Joey Loose
7. Hunter Dickinson
There’s something to be said of experience in this sport and Dickinson certainly has plenty of that. He was named an All-American way back in 2021 while a freshman at Michigan in the first of his three seasons with the Wolverines. He utilized the Transfer Portal and made his way to Kansas last season and put up great numbers as a senior. Dickinson has been a productive center throughout his career and now returns for a fifth and final season of college ball.
Year one with the Jayhawks saw exactly the kind of production that the Jayhawks were expecting from the veteran center. He averaged 17.9 points and 10.9 rebounds, averaging a double-double for the first time in his career. Dickinson led the Big 12 in both total points and rebounds and earned All-American honors for the second time in his career, also nabbing a spot on First Team All-Big 12. While Kansas had their fair share of issues throughout the season, Dickinson was just as advertised for this team.
Back for one last dance, Dickinson remains the player to watch in Lawrence. While he will have Dajuan Harris Jr. and a few other teammates back, there’s a whole new look to the roster around him and Kansas could be one of the nation’s deadliest teams this season. A massive talent, Dickinson is a double-double machine who produces and affects the game every minute he’s on the court. He could be heading towards a third All-American honor and perhaps national glory if things fall his way.
