Technically speaking, the transfer portal doesn’t open for college basketball players until April 7th, the day after the national championship concludes. However, that doesn’t stop players whose seasons have already ended from telling reporters and others their intentions for next season, including whether they’ll be back with their respective teams.
As of April 2nd, a few days before the portal opens, hundreds of players have announced their intentions to enter the portal on Tuesday. That includes multiple Conference Player of the Year winners, high-major starters, and players who averaged 20+ ppg this past season.
For this piece, we’ll be taking a look at the best players who’ll be available to go to new teams this offseason. For now, we’ll be excluding those who’ll need either an NCAA waiver or a court decision to be eligible for the 2026-27 campaign. Here are some notable names in this situation.
- Javan Buchanan - 12.6 ppg and 5.0 rpg at Boise State
- Camren Hunter - 21 ppg and 4.2 rpg at Central Arkansas
- Brody Robinson - 17.6 ppg and 6.7 rpg at Oakland
- Dontae Horne - 20.1 ppg and 2.9 apg at Prairie View A&M
- Daeshun Ruffin - 23.3 ppg and 5.3 apg at Jackson State
- Shelton Williams-Dryden - 20.7 ppg and 9.1 rpg at West Georgia
- Logan Duncomb - 18.3 ppg and 8.9 rpg at Winthrop
There’s plenty of talent overall set to join the portal, with some names barely missing out on the top-100. Here are some honorable mentions.
