7. Florida (21-6)
It’s one of those strange seasons where there isn’t a super dominant SEC team but Florida is certainly asserting themselves as that team here as the season starts to wrap up. The defending champions aren’t playing the same way they did last season, especially during the postseason, but Todd Golden’s squad has hit a real hot streak here when it matters most, including recent wins over Alabama, Kentucky, and Texas A&M.
Their assertions continued into this week, knocking down South Carolina 76-62 for another home win. Alex Condon contributed 20 points and 10 rebounds while Rueben Chinyelu also had a double-double with a 15-point, 17-rebound affair. The Gators equally impressed over the weekend, topping Ole Miss 94-75 on the road. Condon led their scoring with 24 points while Thomas Haugh added 20 points and Xaivian Lee had a double-double.
Florida has run off seven wins in a row and put themselves at the top of the league standings with an outstanding 12-2 record. They’ve constantly shown up in these big conference battles down the stretch and are unquestionably the team to beat in the SEC. We’re not quite finished yet and they still have a few more performances ahead to clinch the regular season crown, beginning at Texas in just a few days.
