6. Connecticut (25-3)

The Huskies have been among the best teams in the nation for just about the entirety of this season. It honestly seemed pretty inevitable that they’d take control of the Big East, especially when they won 18 straight games earlier in the year. A loss at St. John’s earlier this month really dulled that potential but they were absolutely still on a great trajectory.

That changed a bit this week, as UConn somehow lost 91-84 at home against a Creighton team that wasn’t exactly playing the best ball lately. Braylon Mullins was fantastic with 25 points while Tarris Reed Jr. added 15 points and 12 rebounds in a loss that’s a tough pill to swallow. The Huskies got back on top over the weekend with an important 73-63 road win at Villanova. A balanced effort featured 12 points from Alex Karaban and an 11-point, 6-rebound effort from Tarris Reed Jr.

Despite being 15-2 in the Big East standings, UConn has a problem. That loss against Creighton was a stunner but it seemed bound to happen with some of their defensive issues at times. Overall this is still a very good team that can make a deep postseason run, but an important matchup is coming. They have to win the rematch against St. John’s on Wednesday to have any chance at the regular season crown.
