2. Michigan (25-2)
The calendar hasn’t yet hit March but this is already a historic season for Michigan in many ways, and this program certainly has had some incredible teams. Dusty May’s second year in Ann Arbor has produced a team that downright dominated some really great teams this season. The Wolverines sit in incredible shape in the Big Ten and really proved that again this week.
The Wolverines headed to Purdue and came away with a special road win, knocking the Boilermakers down in a 91-80 win. Both sides of the ball really contributed as Elliot Cadeau had 17 points and 7 assists while both Morez Johnson Jr. and Aday Mara had double-doubles. Unfortunately, another significant winning streak ended over the weekend as the Wolverines fell 68-63 against Duke in Washington DC. That incredible game featured 21 points and 7 rebounds from Yaxel Lendeborg but it just wasn’t enough for a classic win.
An eleven game winning streak came to an end, but Michigan is still 15-1 in the Big Ten and the prohibitive favorite to win this great conference. There’s no question that this team has the talent and balance to be playing basketball deep into March and they’ll shake off that tough loss against Duke in no time. They get a home date with Minnesota before a key matchup at Illinois next week.
