6. Iowa State (22-3)
You could easily argue that Iowa State has one of the most significant home court advantages in the sport but it still takes talent and skill to win these games. They showcased that in a 16-0 start to the season before dropping some tough games away from home. The Cyclones are entering the meat and potatoes of their conference schedule here in February and it was a mixed bag, perhaps as expected.
They fell on the road again in another disappointing performance, this time falling 62-55 at TCU. That Tuesday effort was a rough showing for the offense, led by 12 point performances from Joshua Jefferson and Tamin Lipsey. However, the hot-shooting Cyclones shook those cobwebs off on Saturday afternoon, getting a very impressive 74-56 win over a red-hot Kansas team. Milan Momcilovic led the charge with 18 points as the Cyclones soared back into the win column.
Some significant challenges await Iowa State but a 9-3 mark in the Big 12 is impressive even with a few tough efforts. They avenged an earlier loss to Kansas in sensational fashion and reasserted that this isn’t a team to trifle with. However, as we hinted there’s a lot of meat left on this schedule, with Iowa State hosting Houston in just a couple days before an important trip to BYU.
