5. Connecticut (24-2)
While the pathway to a Big East title is still right in front of them, the Huskies certainly didn’t like losing that tough game at St. John’s last Friday night. After running off 18 straight wins and a 12-0 start to conference play, they fell for the first time in more than two months. That long streak is a testament to Dan Hurley’s squad, who remains a national contender and showed that again this week.
Wednesday saw them finish their season sweep over Butler with an 80-70 victory on the road. Solo Ball emerged with 24 points while Silas Demary Jr. and Tarris Reed Jr. both added double-doubles. Their weekend action was much closer than expected, as the Huskies prevailed 79-75 at home against Georgetown. Ball led again with 20 points while Alex Karaban added 18 points against the Hoyas.
Two more wins boost the Huskies inches closer to their goals, even if those wins were both a little closer than some expected. UConn has frankly been dominant around the hoop in recent weeks and keep finding ways to win these games. They have the look of a future top-seed in the NCAA Tournament and will hope to keep building towards that against Creighton and Villanova next week.
