2. Houston (23-2)

The only losses that Houston has suffered this season came at the hands of Tennessee in Las Vegas and Texas Tech up in Lubbock. The Cougars have largely handled their business, combined a talented roster with some great freshmen to impose their will in the Big 12. Houston continues to boast an elite defense with some fireworks on the other side of the ball and both helped them get through another flawless week.

Defense saw them pick up another road win on Tuesday, as the Cougars prevailed 66-52 at Utah. Emanuel Sharp was the key figure in that game as he dropped 27 points on the Utes in impressive fashion. Houston then shook off a slow start this weekend, ending up with a 78-64 win over Kansas State. Sharp stood out again with 23 points while stud freshman Kingston Flemings added 12 points and 7 rebounds.

In what was probably Houston’s easiest week during Big 12 play the Cougars did exactly what they needed. This team now sits 11-1 in an extremely tough Big 12 and just continues to stand out and impose their will. However, Kelvin Sampon’s team now jumps into the hard part of their schedule, beginning at Iowa State on Monday before facing Arizona in a must-see matchup next weekend.
