25. Miami-Ohio (29-0)
While the metrics certainly don’t have this team near the top teams in the land, there comes a point where winning just matters. This Miami team remains the lone unbeaten in college basketball and it doesn’t really matter that it hasn’t been in a power conference league. The RedHawks have been tested by their MAC rivals and survived to this point, and they certainly got a big challenge again this week.
The winning continued in style on Tuesday night, with the RedHawks prevailing 74-64 at Eastern Michigan thanks to a really strong first half. Brant Byers led with 16 points while Antwone Woolfolk added 14 points in win #28. Friday was a much closer call, digging out of a late hole in a 69-67 win at Western Michigan that included a game-winner in the final moments. Peter Suder had 18 points and Almar Atlason added 16 points, though Tyler Perry won it in the closing seconds.
Boasting 29 wins in a row, Miami literally couldn’t be doing any better than they are right now. National heads are talking about a weak schedule and their metrics are likely why we haven’t included them until now, but you legitimately have to respect a team that has won all of their games. Whether or not Miami really is one of the best teams in the country, they’ll look to complete the perfect regular season against Toledo and Ohio next week.
