14. Gonzaga (28-3)
The story on Gonzaga has been pretty similar in recent history even if the results have wavered a bit. The Bulldogs have always been the kings of the WCC, building a strong nonconference schedule to counterbalance a January and February typically lacking in resume-building opportunities. Gonzaga took advantage of some tough matchups earlier in the year, but let’s not act like they were exactly perfect in the WCC this season.
Due to the format of the WCC Tournament, we didn’t see the Bulldogs in action this week. That’s something that’ll change very soon, as this is Gonzaga’s last season in the WCC before joining the revamped Mountain West next year. It’ll be the end of a fantastic rivalry with Saint Mary’s, as those two are often among the top mid-major programs in the country, and the Gaels just beat Gonzaga by 11 points in their most recent game last weekend.
At their best, Gonzaga has shown that they can beat some great teams and could have plenty to say when the NCAA Tournament rolls around. Until then, Mark Few is focused on getting his team ready for those chances and grabbing one last WCC Tournament title. Barring upsets, it’s very likely they’ll see Saint Mary’s one final time in the title game and that result may change just what seed the Bulldogs get in March Madness.
