1. Duke (29-2)
Against Texas Tech in late December, Duke fumbled the ending and lost by a single point. At North Carolina in early February, the Blue Devils were felled by a buzzer-beating 3-pointer. Those two late-game moments are the only blemishes on what has unquestionably been an incredible season from this program. Jon Scheyer has done it again and it’s not hard to see just why this team keeps winning big games.
The Blue Devils were back on the road to start the week but had zero issues, getting a 93-64 win at NC State. Cameron Boozer continued his phenomenal season with 26 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists while Dame Sarr added 16 points and 9 rebounds. Vengeance was at hand on Saturday in the regular season finale as Duke beat rival North Carolina 76-61. Boozer had 26 points and 15 rebounds, Maliq Brown put up 15 points, and the Blue Devils got revenge for that earlier loss.
In the last few weeks alone, Duke toppled Michigan and has been beating up on ACC contenders left and right. Nearly every ACC contest down the stretch has been a double-digit victory, rattling teams like Louisville, Virginia, and Clemson left and right. With a top-seed at March Madness locked up already, the Blue Devils turn their attention towards an ACC Tournament that is clearly theirs to win.
We’ll have the NCAA Tournament bracket a week from now. The college basketball season has provided some incredible moments from these top teams, as evident in this week’s edition of the Top 25 rankings. There’s still time for legacies to be written and for these rankings to change, but do you agree with those included this week?
