18. Kansas (22-9)
From mid-January to mid-February the Jayhawks put together one of the more impressive 8-game winning streaks we’ve seen all season, toppling teams like Arizona, Iowa State, and Texas Tech along the way. Since then, things have been far less prosperous for a Jayhawks team with tough showings and a really bizarre home loss to Cincinnati just a few weekends ago.
Unfortunately, a putrid offensive performance led to another disaster, with the Jayhawks falling 70-60 at Arizona State this past Tuesday. Tre White (16 points, 14 rebounds) was one of three Kansas players to have a double-double, but the team shot really poorly and dug a big hole in the first half. Things went more according to plan in the regular season finale, winning 104-85 over in-state rival Kansas State. Darryn Peterson scored 27 points off the bench while White had another double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
This Kansas team looked like world beaters exactly one month ago and instead end the season with four losses in their last seven games. What really stands out is that all four losses came by double figures and this team really struggles with consistency. The offense has really let them down in this final stretch and Bill Self has to figure out how to get the most out of this talented team next week in Kansas City or it’s going to be a quick Big 12 Tournament for the Jayhawks.
