18. Louisville (14-5)
Injuries and illnesses affect every team in college basketball but it’s fair to wonder where the Cardinals could be with their full complement of players. Both Mikel Brown Jr. and Ryan Conwell have missed games during ACC play, but Pat Kelsey knows nobody is feeling sorry for his team. The Cardinals aren’t using that as an excuse and certainly took no prisoners in last week’s 41-point blowout at Pittsburgh.
The score wasn’t quite as drastic, but Louisville took care of business again in their only matchup of the week, winning 85-71 against Virginia Tech. It’s incredible how the Cardinals can look with that full complement, as Brown had 20 points and 6 assists while Conwell added 15 points and 6 rebounds against the Hokies.
You could argue disappointment with a 4-3 start in the ACC but Louisville won’t get bogged down in those kinds of discussions. Kelsey and company are focused on what’s ahead as he truly has turned this program around in a major way in less than two years. They’re fortunate to have those starters back in the fold as the Cardinals have a very tough game at Duke on Monday before a shot at SMU over the weekend.
