17. Alabama (14-6)
We’ve seen some great performances out of Alabama this season, evident in wins over Illinois and St. John’s much earlier in the season. We’ve also seen the Crimson Tide fall short a few times, especially in recent weeks against a very strong SEC. Nate Oats built a team that can win against nearly any team and has strong potential, but they’ve now lost a pair of home games in league play and aren’t quite living up to lofty preseason expectations.
The last seven days only saw the Crimson Tide in action once and it was another game in Tuscaloosa, but this team certainly didn’t blow another one at home. Alabama played strong in a 90-64 win over Missouri to get back on track. Latreel Wrightsell had 21 points, Labaron Philon Jr. had 18 points and Aiden Sherrell added 16 points against the Tigers.
A team that can seemingly hang with anyone is just 4-3 in the SEC. Their early performances showed that they can hang with national contenders, but it’s also clear that Alabama will go as far as a mediocre defense will take them. The Crimson Tide will keep relying on their scoring ability and they’ll need plenty of that in a busy week, heading to Florida on Sunday before toughies against Texas A&M and rival Auburn.
