22. Maryland Terrpains
The Terrapins marched to the Sweet Sixteen in 2025 and were in pretty solid shape, but then Kevin Willard departed for the Villanova job. Maryland replaced him with a known quantity in Buzz Williams, though year one was not what anyone in College Park really expected. A struggle all around, the Terrapins finished 17th in the Big Ten, won just 12 games, and are hoping for better things in the immediate future.
There’s substantial talent in the half-dozen new additions to Maryland’s transfer class. The highest-ranked piece is Tomislav Buljan, who averaged a double-double as a freshman at New Mexico this past season but he’s far from the only notable addition. The Terrapins added some high-major talent in the backcourt, getting D. J. Wagner out of Arkansas and nabbing Bishop Boswell from Tennessee, with these two SEC guards likely getting decent run.
Three probable starters emerged for the Terrapins but Williams got a few more notable pieces as well. Michael McNair averaged 16.9 points per game last season at Boston University and should provide backcourt depth. They also took fliers on two players with limited opportunities, getting Robert Jennings from Oklahoma State and Maximo Ortega from Wofford.
We’re not identifying future rotations or weighing Maryland against the other Big Ten teams, but clearly the hopes in College Park are that the Terrapins take a measured step forward in Williams’ second season on campus. If he takes that big step forward as a sophomore then Buljan could become one of the most productive forwards in the Big Ten and let’s not ignore the potential scattered all over this roster, both these newcomers and the returning faces.
