13. Gonzaga (5-0)

Something we’ve certainly learned over the last quarter century is that you have to keep an eye on Gonzaga early in every season. Even when the Bulldogs aren’t loaded with an elite level of talent, this program has a way of making waves in nonconference play. We’re certainly not saying that about this team, as this rendition of Gonzaga has some brilliant playmakers, showcasing that talent with three straight double-digit wins over power conference teams.

No tough battle was had this past week, as Gonzaga soared over Southern Utah with a 122-50 win in a laugher. Virtually everything went right in Spokane for the Bulldogs, led by a 22-point, 6-rebound effort from Braden Huff over the Thunderbirds. They also got 19 points off the bench from Davis Fogle while shooting 68% from the floor as a team.

We learned a lot about this team in their blowout against Creighton and in those other previous wins. Going up more than 70 points on any D1 team is clearly an impressive statement, but the week ahead is where Gonzaga can truly make a statement. The Bulldogs head to the Players Era Festival, an event they’ll begin Monday with a huge matchup against Alabama before two other contests. This right here is when the Bulldogs show us what they’re made of and build that resume.
