Nearly halfway through December, the college basketball enters the doldrums, that holiday season where there are certainly less games as teams take finals, celebrate Christmas, and mentally prepare for conference season. By no means are there zero games this week or next week or in the back half of this month, but we’re not exactly as jam packed as we will be in January and beyond.
Regardless of how much basketball was played, each and every night is a chance for some team to showcase their talent and to play this sport. Intense arguments will be had in the middle of March around the Selection Committee, but even games taking place right now could make or break a season, both for the strongest Blue Blood and the seemingly irrelevant mid-major power.
The national focus clearly falls not just on the Blue Bloods but the power conference teams and what they’ve accomplished in the season. Frankly we’ve had a plethora of exciting matchups in the first six weeks of this season, with many ranked matchups and exciting holiday events. Even with less on the agenda in the weeks ahead, there are still notable games and exciting performances to come.
Even after a week with less excitement, the Top 25 rankings still need updating and we’ve been keeping an eye once again on the best teams in the land. A few of these teams didn’t even have games while others stayed comfortable at home, but let’s not act like everyone can just sit back with their feet up. There were several notable outcomes and we’ll be sure to reflect just exactly what we feel about each of these teams ahead.
