16. Alabama (7-3)
Great offense isn’t unusual from Alabama and it’s the same story this year, even with new pieces all over this roster. Nate Oats’ team got great wins over Illinois and St. John’s early in the year and have also suffered their fair share of disappointment. Coming off last week’s nice win over Clemson, the Crimson Tide were back in action and had another major challenge this week.
Last Sunday was brilliant, with Alabama topping UTSA 97-55 in an easy win. Jalil Bethea led the scoring 21 points while London Jemison and Labaron Philon Jr. had 20 points apiece. The ball just didn’t bounce their way in that major challenge, falling 96-75 against top-ranked Alabama on Saturday night. Philon had 24 points and 10 rebounds while Latrell Wrightsell added 21 points in what was a disappointing night.
The schedule has been insane throughout nonconference play and despite three tough losses there’s still a ton to like about these Crimson Tide. The work from Alabama has featured strong offense, with Philon and Wrightsell so essential to this team’s success. Life in the SEC isn’t easy, even though the Crimson Tide should be one of the favorites in this strong league, but it’s easier going before league play, including South Florida on the docket next week.
