5. Connecticut (10-1)
With the talent both back and new for the Huskies, it’s not a surprise why this team looks like it can cut down the nets, much like this program did back in 2023 and 2024. UConn has made a recent habit out of national success and you know that Dan Hurley is going to get the most out of this lineup. The Huskies shook off an early home loss against Arizona and have looked pretty lethal all season and continued their recent hot streak last week.
Tuesday saw a great game at Madison Square Garden, as the Huskies knocked off defending champion Florida 77-73. Solo Ball led the charge with 19 points while Alex Karaban added 13 points to beat the Gators. Another SEC foe fell Friday, with UConn triumphing 71-63 against Texas. Karaban scored 18 points while Tarris Reed Jr. had a great game with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists to help lead the way.
Nonconference play for the Huskies was filled with brilliant work and a resume that includes victories over BYU, Illinois, and Kansas. What the future lies is uncertain but the Huskies certainly look like the most talented and capable team in this year’s Big East race. Conference play in that league begins this week and the Huskies have a very soft landing, starting off with Butler and DePaul before the Christmas break.
