3. Purdue Boilermakers

Purdue remains one of the nation’s most efficient offenses. New addition Oscar Cluff joins Braden Smith and Fletcher Loyer to keep the Boilermakers near the top. Matt Painter’s challenge is keeping this group healthy for a late March run.

Many are projecting this is the season for the boys from West Lafayette. With four starters back and the big man from South Dakota State coming over, along with a deep bench of athletes, the Boiler fans are ready to see the team take the court.

Trey Kaufman-Renn scored 20.1 points per game a season ago, with Braden Smith leading the offense and scoring nearly 16 points per game. Loyer will bring nearly 14 points per game to the squad.

A season ago, the Boilermakers struggled a bit down the stretch of the regular season, losing four out of their final six games. The Boilermakers played a little better in the big dance as they had Houston on the ropes, but fell by two to the national runner-up.

Painter and the Boilermakers open their season on November 4 against the Evansville Aces. The first big test for the Boilermakers comes on November 13 as they take on Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Boilers also have Memphis, Marquette, and Auburn on their non-conference slate.
