18. Kansas Jayhawks
After a disappointing early tournament exit, Kansas reloads with star freshman Darryn Peterson and key transfers Melvin Council Jr. (St. Bonaventure) and Tre White (Illinois). With Hunter Dickinson gone, Flory Bidunga steps into a larger role inside.
Hunter Dickinson, Zeke Mayo, KJ Adams Jr., Dajuan Harris, Rylan Griffin and AJ Storr are all gone from the Jayhawks of a season ago. Those were the top scorers for the Jayhawks. Kansas beat Arizona in the regular season finale at home, but then fell in two out of their final three games; in the Big 12 quarterfinals to Arizona and then in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Arkansas.
For Self, it was the first time his Jayhawks did not win their first round game since the 2005-06 season. Now it has been three seasons since the Jayhawks won the national title, and they have just two wins in three seasons. Kansas also finished sixth in the Big 12 for the first time in school history, winning just 11 of 20 conference games. The frustrating season has not deterred Self and his staff from scheduling one of the most competitive non-conference schedules in the country.
