Schedule Overview

The Big 10 has 18 teams now, with the additions of Oregon, USC, UCLA, and Washington. That means that there will be a lot of single plays and only three double plays in the Big 10 schedule. It also means that the league is a lot tougher than it already was, and teams can still reasonably get an at-large with a .500 record or a little below, depending on who they beat.

Nebraska does have some exciting non-conference matchups. The Huskers play Saint Mary’s in a neutral site game in South Dakota at the Sanford Pentagon. That game is November 17th and is going to be the first true test for both teams in that game. There is the annual game with Creighton, this time it is in Omaha. The Huskers round out the non-conference by going to Hawaii over Christmas and playing in the Diamond Head Classic with Murray State, Charlotte, Hawaii, Oregon State, College of Charleston, Loyola Chicago, and Oakland.

The Big Ten schedule has home games with Indiana, UCLA, Rutgers, USC, Illinois, Ohio State, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, and Iowa. The road games in the Big Ten are against Michigan State, Iowa, Purdue, Maryland, Wisconsin, Oregon, Washington, Northwestern, Penn State, and Ohio State. Nebraska gets a lot of tough games on the road. Mackey Arena and the Kohl Center are very hard to win at. The Huskers do get Illinois and Rutgers at home, which will help if those teams are as good as we all think. Coach Hoiberg did a great job of challenging Nebraska enough to get them ready for Big Ten play.
