The race for the top player in the 2027 recruiting class just took a major step forward. Five-star point guard Kaleena Smith, the consensus No. 1 overall prospect in the country, has officially scheduled 11 visits this fall, according to 247Sports. The list includes many of the biggest names in women's college basketball and could shape the future landscape of the sport over the next several years.

Whenever the nation's top recruit starts locking in official visits, every stop becomes significant. Coaches now have their opportunity to make one final impression before one of the most anticipated commitments in recent recruiting memory.

Eleven powerhouse programs are getting their shot

Smith's visit schedule features a who's who of women's basketball programs.

Her official visits are scheduled as follows:

  • Washington – July 31
  • Baylor – August 28
  • Oklahoma – September 4
  • Georgia – September 11
  • Tennessee – September 25
  • Arizona State – October 9
  • Miami – October 16
  • USC – October 23
  • UCLA – October 30
  • UConn – November 6
  • Texas A&M – November 13

It's an impressive collection of schools spanning nearly every major conference. Traditional national championship contenders like UConn, Tennessee and Baylor are joined by recent recruiting powers USC and UCLA, while programs such as Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Miami and Washington will have the opportunity to make their own compelling pitches.

Simply earning an official visit from Smith is a sign that a program is firmly in the national conversation.

Why Kaleena Smith is worth the attention

Smith has spent the past three years proving she deserves every bit of the hype.

The 5-foot-6 point guard from Ontario Christian High School in California is widely regarded as the premier player in the 2027 class thanks to her elite combination of scoring, playmaking and basketball IQ. She enters the recruiting process after leading Ontario Christian to a national championship while earning both MaxPreps National Player of the Year and Sporting News National Player of the Year honors.

Despite not having prototypical size for a point guard, Smith has consistently dominated against elite competition. Her ability to control tempo, create offense for teammates and score from all three levels has made her one of the most polished high school guards in recent memory.

Several programs appear well positioned

Although it's still early in the process, several schools naturally stand out.

UConn has built its reputation on developing elite guards and remains one of the sport's premier destinations. USC has become one of the hottest recruiting programs in the country while continuing to attract top-tier talent. UCLA has also established itself among the nation's elite, and Baylor's long history of producing WNBA-caliber guards makes it an obvious contender.

Tennessee, meanwhile, offers one of the richest traditions in women's college basketball, while Oklahoma, Georgia, Washington, Miami, Arizona State and Texas A&M will each have the chance to show why Smith should help lead the next chapter of their respective programs.

The recruiting battle is only beginning

Scheduling official visits doesn't necessarily reveal a favorite, but it does signal that Smith's recruitment is entering one of its most important phases.

Every campus visit will provide coaches an opportunity to showcase player development, culture, NIL opportunities and championship potential. With the nation's top prospect evaluating 11 programs over the next four months, each stop could shift momentum.

One thing is already clear: wherever Kaleena Smith ultimately commits, she'll instantly become one of the most impactful additions in women's college basketball. The next few months should provide plenty of clues about where the No. 1 player in the 2027 class will call home.
