Pac-12 Basketball: 5 more programs the conference could consider poaching
College basketball is still a few weeks away, but conference realignment never rests. Even with the football season kicking up, schools were making moves to try and better their prospects in the future.
A few weeks ago, the Pac-12 seemed all but dead. The exodus began en masse when USC and UCLA revealed their intention to leave for the Big Ten. Washington and Oregon soon followed and suddenly, programs throughout the league jumped off what seemed to be a sinking ship, leaving Oregon State and Washington State holding the bag.
But suddenly, the Beavers and Cougars found new recruits. First, Boise State, Fresno State, Colorado State, and San Diego State. The next domino was Utah State, meaning five schools from the Mountain West departed for the shell of the Pac-12.
The biggest domino to fall on the hardwood was when Gonzaga agreed to make its long-awaited jump from the WCC. Suddenly, the Pac-12 looks like a real power basketball league.
But the Pac-12 doesn't need to be done yet.
As the conference is reborn, what programs should the Pac-12 try to recruit into the league?
At the moment, the future Pac-12 looks like a glorified version of the Mountain West - a solid basketball league, but not an elite one. There are avenues to improve, particularly on the hardwood, and make the Pac-12 look dangerous on the national level, even without the likes of Arizona and UCLA.
So who should the Pac-12 look at? Here are five schools that should be on the conference's radar.
