3 takeaways from UConn Basketball's big win over Gonzaga
By John Makuch
In an Elite Eight rematch, UConn Basketball picked up a huge win over a tough nonconference opponent in the Gonzaga Bulldogs 76-63. This team went to Seattle, Washington, and won a top-10 matchup against one of the best teams in the entire nation.
This was very much in part due to a strong first half by UConn, where they came out with a 45-34 lead in the first 20 minutes of basketball. Gonzaga was just unable to get back in the game after that great start by UConn, and the Huskies got what felt like an easy win given the circumstances.
When you play the 10th best team in the nation according to the rankings, you do not expect to win in double-digit fashion the way UConn did against this team, but these Huskies are looking to defend themselves as National Champions, and their campaign is going quite well.
This was their final game before conference play began in the great Big East, and with a statement win like this, it is hard to imagine anyone else winning it besides UConn or Marquette. The conference tournament will be what it is, but in the regular season, this dominance will lead to a Big East crown depending on how the Golden Eagles perform.
But even if they do not win their conference, having a strong slate that they did, ending up 10-1 in nonconference play, they have already put themselves in a great position for March seeding. But what can they take away from this game for now?
