Antonio Reeves (Kentucky)

There’s a lot of talent in Lexington this season but it’s hard not to focus on the fifth-year senior averaging more than 20 points a game. Yes, John Calipari made his usual splashes on the recruiting trail, with brilliant freshmen Rob Dillingham and Reed Sheppard standing out, but we’re looking at what Reeves has done for the Wildcats in his final season.

Formerly a great scorer at Illinois State, Reeves was the SEC’s best sixth man last season and took on an even bigger role this year, averaging 20.2 points and 4.3 rebounds for the Wildcats. Part of one of the nation’s best offenses, Reeves is averaging a career-best 44% from outside the arc, making the third-most of those shots among SEC players.

Reeves’ season-high was a 30-point effort against rival Louisville, though he’s regularly had nice outings in conference play. He had 24 points and 5 assists in a recent win over Alabama and dropped 27 in the regular season finale at Tennessee. He’s actually made at least six field goals in each of Kentucky’s last seventeen games.

Kentucky earned the 2-seed and proved that they can beat anyone in this conference. This offense is almost unmatched and Reeves’ impact cannot be understated. Despite those monster numbers, he somehow flies under the radar compared to some of the younger pieces in Lexington, but you better believe these other SEC contenders won’t be overlooking him.
