SMU Mustangs - Grade: A-

SMU has been a mid-tier team in the AAC for the last few seasons so entering this offseason, the consensus expectation has been that they’d be in the bottom of the ACC to start out. But the program made a ton of changes, both in the coaching staff and in the overall roster to give them some real hope in year one.

The first move they made was the most controversial one, replacing Rob Lanier after two years, despite going from 10 to 20 wins this past season. Andy Enfield comes over from USC as a proven power conference coach that can recruit and he landed several quality transfers.

Kevin “Boopie” Miller (15.6 pg and 3.5 apg) comes over from Wake Forest as a proven ACC guard, paired with returning starters, Chuck Harris and BJ Edwards. Kario Oquendo also has starting experience at both Oregon and Georgia. Matt Cross also returns to the ACC after being an all-league forward from UMass, while Yohan Traore is a former 5-star prospect who had a good past season at UC Santa Barbara.

Even after failing to land Coleman Hawkins from the portal, it’s hard to envision a better roster for SMU, entering the ACC. They’ll have a full year to recruit at this level and if they overachieve, it could be a program to watch going forward.
