Virginia Tech Hokies - Grade: D-

The Hokies were set to lose three rotation pieces this offseason due to no eligibility left, including senior sharpshooter, Hunter Cattoor and forwards, Mekhi Long and Robbie Beran. Making matters worse, the team also lost the other three starters to the transfer portal, including MJ Collins, Lynn Kidd, and Sean Pedulla.

With just backup big Mylyjael Poteat returning, Virginia Tech’s added five transfers. The only one that would make any top-100 list is Hysier Miller, a starting guard over from Temple. Duke transfer Jaden Schutt missed last season with an injury but could be a breakout transfer to watch with a larger role going forward.

The problem is that the Hokies also had a commitment from Jordan Ivy-Curry, who averaged over 15 ppg at UTSA. He de-committed to go elsewhere and they weren’t able to replace him at all. Incoming forwards Ben Burnham and Toibu Lawal are solid depth pieces but neither are the big-time offensive frontcourt threats the program is used to.

Can Virginia Tech surprise folks in the ACC and be a threat next season? Possibly. But from a roster standpoint, there’s no question they got worse on paper. The question is by how much?
