ACC Basketball: 2024 offseason grades for all 18 programs
Wake Forest Demon Decaons - Grade: B
One of the biggest NBA Draft decisions late to watch was Hunter Sallis, who led the Deacons with 18.0 ppg. His move to come back instantly made this a successful offseason overall, giving the team a Conference POY contender to watch. But it also wasn’t all good news, as double-digit starters, Andrew Carr and Kevin Miller opted to transfer out.
Cameron Hildreth and Efton Reid are back though, along with one of the more intriguing transfer classes in the ACC. Among the five newcomers, only Tre’Von Spillers is the lone non-freshman, a 6’7 forward coming over from Applachian State who provides rebounding inside.
The other four are freshmen transfers with high ceilings. Ty-Laur Johnson was an impact player at Louisville who had some big outings in extended minutes. Davin Crosby is a former top-100 guard from Alabama, while Churchill Abass comes from DePaul to back up Reid.
Suppose Omaha Biliew, a former 5-star prospect and transfer from Iowa State, can be the next reclamation success project for Coach Steve Forbes. In that case, Wake Forest will have enough talent to finally break the postseason wall and get back into the NCAA Tournament. This is a group whose offseason could very well turn into an “A+” if these young transfers work out.
