Cal Bears - Grade: B+

For ‘grading” it’s going to be hard to analyze those who are either moving conferences or replacing its entire roster. In the case of Cal, they’re moving over from the Pac-12 to the ACC, while also losing every rotation player from last season outside of freshman forward, Devin Curtis.

In Coach Mark Madsen’s defense, all of the important ones were seniors, except Jaylon Tyson. He led the team in scoring and decided to go pro, which can’t be blamed on Cal. But the team was able to land 10 transfers, including a couple of possible breakout players.

Andrej Stojakovic is a former 5-star prospect who at Stanford, averaged 7.8 ppg in 22 mpg. He’s a breakout candidate to watch as a sophomore, along with Joshua Ola-Joseph, another talented guard from Minnesota also looking for a larger role. There’s plenty of guard depth (Christian Tucker, Jovan Blacksher Jr., and DJ Campbell) as well, while the center transfer duo of Lee Dort and Mady Sissoko can occupy the five-spot.

Considering that Cal is still rebuilding, there’s not going to be a lot of expectations for the Bears in year 1 of ACC Basketball. But between the wing building blocks and the veterans surrounding them, it’s hard to see how much more they could’ve done rebuilding.
