Florida State Seminoles - Grade: D

After going 10-10 in league play, Florida State’s roster had a complete turnover, losing just about everyone. However, they were able to return star forward Jamir Watkins, who led the team with 15.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, and 2.8 apg. He had originally entered both the transfer portal and NBA Draft process but in the final days, opted to come back to the program in a surprise move.

Having Watkins back is what avoids a “failing” grade for the Seminoles. Because very little went right for the program throughout the offseason. There’s still multiple open spots left on the roster, with depth concerns, both inside and out and little proven power conference production.

The Seminoles will likely start 4-star prospect prospect Daquan Davis in the backcourt next to Chandler Jackson, who came off the bench last season. Jerry Deng and JUCO All-American forward Malique Ewin will lead the frontcourt and there’s potential inside. But this will also be the first time in a while where the team doesn’t have a gluttony of bigs to rotate for all 40 minutes.

Even with Watkins, it’s hard to see this roster being better than last season, which wasn’t close enough to getting to the postseason. There’s a strong chance that they’ll take another step back, leaving questions as to where they go with Coach Leonard Hamilton.
