8. Virginia Cavaliers - 11-5 (2-3)

The past week was very telling for Virginia. Not in that they lost, as road defeats to Wake Forest and NC State in itself aren’t awful. But neither were overly competitive, losing by 19 and 16 points respectively. Not only is the offense not good enough to win but the defense has shown weakness as well.

The good news is that the non-conference performance still should have them on the right side of the bubble. Yet right now, the Cavaliers don’t look like an NCAA Tournament team at all. They have the chance to right the ship this week, taking on Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech. A sweep would be ideal for them.

7. Virginia Tech Hokies - 10-6 (2-3)

The Hokies have had a tough slate of opponents, including dealing with Florida State and FSU on the road. They split their last two games, beating a ranked Clemson squad before falling at home against Miami. Guard Sean Pedulla has been on a tear lately, scoring 26, 32, and 33 points in the last three games.

Virginia Tech has a couple more tough games to deal with on the road this week, taking on Virginia and NC State. These will be a couple of bubble battles so they’ll get even more attention from Bracktologists.
