ACC Basketball: Georgia Tech, Pitt, Virginia and Syracuse fall in latest power ranking
6. Clemson Tigers - 12-4 (2-3)
After a strong start that has some asking if they were the team to beat in the ACC, Clemson went on a three-game losing skid. Two were on the road (Miami and Virginia Tech), along with a home setback to North Carolina. They did bounce back with an 89-78 win over Boston College, led by 26 points each from PJ Hall and Joe Girard.
The defense has taken a turn for the worst, which won’t get it done against good scoring offenses. The Tigers have a chance to get some momentum back with a couple of winnable games, at home versus Georgia Tech and on the road at Florida State.
5. NC State Wolfpack - 12-4 (4-1)
Coach Kevin Keatts certainly won’t apologize for the team’s strong start to ACC play but it hasn’t been overly impressive. They got blown out by rival UNC at home while surviving road battles against Notre Dame and Louisville. The offense has been inconsistent at times and has struggled shooting the ball in the past few games.
A big opportunity is coming up for the Wolfpack to show that they’re a conference and NCAA Tournament contenders at home this week. They take on Wake Forest and Virginia Tech, both of which will have implications for the postseason.
