4. Kevin Keatts (NC State)

Things certainly feel a lot different for Keatts right now than they did even a month ago after what NC State accomplished this postseason. Long before that, Keatts spent much of his early career at the high school level at Hargrave Military Academy. He was an assistant when Louisville won the national title in 2013 and got his D1 head coaching start with success at UNC Wilmington, taking those Seahawks to the Big Dance on multiple occasions.

3. Hubert Davis (North Carolina)

After starring for the Tar Heels over thirty years ago, Davis spent more than a decade in the NBA before working as an analyst for ESPN. The former shooting guard was hired to join Roy Williams’ staff at his alma mater back in 2012 and has spent his entire coaching career in Chapel Hill. Davis was promoted to the top job when Williams retired three years ago and it’s been quite the start to his head coaching career.

His first season ended in a shocking run all the way to the national title game, though the Tar Heels’ disappointment in year two was perhaps even more shocking, as the preseason favorites failed to reach the postseason. This past year was far steadier, as Davis led North Carolina to an ACC regular season title and trip to the Sweet Sixteen. He’s won seven NCAA Tournament games in his first three years and has the Tar Heels still in great shape for the long-term.
