ACC Basketball: Virginia rise, Florida State and Clemson falls in latest power ranking
3. Virginia Cavaliers - 18-5 (9-3)
There was a key point in the season where Virginia simply looked awful. They had lost 3 of 4 ACC Basketball games, all of which by 16+ points. That included a shocking blowout loss to Notre Dame, as well as a 66-47 defeat to Wake Forest.
To Coach Tony Bennett’s credit, the Cavaliers have since won seven straight games. The victories include Virginia Tech, NC State in overtime, Clemson by a point of most recently, a 60-38 blowout win over Miami, led by 16 points and seven assists from Reece Beekman.
Besides the defense getting back into gear, one notable change that has occurred at Virginia was getting Merrimack transfer Jordan Minor back into the rotation and starting lineup. This is a small team in general but he’s still a talented defensive frontcourt player whose interior play has helped the Cavaliers look like normal.
The Cavaliers' resume could still use some more work but from an eye-test standpoint, they look like an NCAA Tournament team. They’ll look to extend their winning streak with games against Florida State and Pittsburgh, hoping to build off of the momentum.
