ACC Basketball: Virginia rise, Florida State and Clemson falls in latest power ranking
1. North Carolina Tar Heels - 18-4 (10-1)
The Tar Heels didn’t have a single true road game in the non-con schedule. But with so many veterans, they weren’t afraid to go out and in wins away from home, beating the likes of Pittsburgh, Clemson, and NC State in nine days to make a big statement.
It hasn’t all been perfect, as UNC did lose on the road at Georgia Tech to end a 10-game win streak, allowing what was an ACC-high 74 points in the defeat. They may have been looking ahead of the Duke matchup this past weekend, where they led from start to finish for a 93-84 home win.
Armando Bacot outplayed Filipowski inside, finishing with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Harrison Ingram, one of the top impact players in the country, had 21 points and 13 rebounds. And current ACC Player of the Year favorite RJ Davis had 17 points as well.
If there was any question as to who the best team in the ACC was, the Heels’ big win this past weekend made it clear that UNC should be at the top. Now, they’re fighting for not just a 1 seed in the ACC Tournament but also now in the NCAA Tournament as one of the best teams in the country. They’ll look to keep the momentum going this week with matchups against Clemson and Miami, two bubble teams that’ll be desperate for the win.
