ACC Basketball: Virginia rise, Florida State and Clemson falls in latest power ranking
11. Florida State Seminoles - 12-9 (6-4)
There was no bigger surprise in ACC Basketball early on than FSU, who had a 5-game win streak to start 5-1 in league play. It included wins over Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and even on the road at Miami so it wasn’t a complete fluke. Since then, the Seminoles have lost 3 of the last 4.
They did have a 16-point win over Syracuse, before losing to North Carolina. This past weekend, Florida State suffered an awful loss to Louisville, 101-92. Jalen Warley had 23 points, with Primo Spears coming off the bench with 17. But they allowed 54% shooting from the field and 36 made free throws overall in the loss.
Whatever slim postseason hopes that five-game win streak gave them before definitely ended with the Louisville setback. That creates the new question of where this program goes from here. In a likely back-to-back missed NCAA Tournament appearances, where will this leave Coach Leonard Hamilton? He’s certainly not on a hot seat but retirement could be an option that potentially emerges.
It’ll be interesting to see how FSU bounces back this week. They go on the road at Boston College, before taking on a red-hot Virginia squad on the weekend.
