9. Clemson Tigers - 14-7 (4-6)

At one point in the non-conference, Clemson was 11-1 and ranked as high as No. 13 nationally. But ever since they had three straight double-digit losses in ACC play, the Tigers haven’t looked like an NCAA Tournament team. In the three wins since the start of the new year, they’ve beaten Boston College, Florida State, and Louisville.

To Clemson’s credit, they’ve been close. They nearly beat Duke in Cameron Indoor Stadium before a late foul call took the game away from them. And they lost by one point at home against Virginia, 66-65. PJ Hall had 19 points and six rebounds on just 4/16 shooting as the lead guy.

The good news for the Tigers is that some of the previous non-con wins have looked better over time, including the ones over Alabama, South Carolina, TCU, and Boise State. However, this isn’t an ACC Basketball resume ranking, where Clemson would rank high.

Right now, the Tigers just don’t look overly good and are vulnerable to the kind of late-season collapse that doomed them a year ago. This week will be a good test of whether they can bounce back or not, having a pair of road tests against North Carolina and Syracuse.
