ACC Basketball: Virginia rise, Florida State and Clemson falls in latest power ranking
7. Virginia Tech Hokies - 13-9 (5-6)
It’s been a set of streaks for the Hokies, including three different two-game losing skids. That includes most recently, having lost to Duke and Miami last weekend. The final score against the Hurricanes was 82-74, despite Sean Pedulla’s 21 points and five assists.
In ACC play, Virginia Tech has wins over NC State and Clemson, though the victory over the Tigers has lost its luster. Among the six defeats, only the road loss to Florida State looks shaky on paper. For its resume overall, they do have wins over Boise State and Iowa State and no truly bad losses.
Still, the metrics don’t look great, and being under .500 in the conference isn’t ideal. A lack of depth has been a main issue, with only Lynn Kidd (13.5 ppg and 6.6 rpg) having emerged from the supporting cast this season.
There’s still some hope with the Hokies, as they have games with UNC and Virginia up next. But they’ll also have to win the other games, including Notre Dame and Florida State up next. They’ve managed to avoid the landmines to this point but now need to find a signature win in the ACC.
