9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

2023-24 season record: 13-20 (7-13 ACC)

For what was supposed to be the worst power conference in NCAA Basketball last season, first-year head coach Micah Shewsberry did a solid job in keeping the Irish competitive overall. And there’s a good chance that the team is poised for a big push, returning their top four scorers.

Guard Markus Burton (17.5 ppg and 4.3 apg) was one of the best freshmen in the entire sport and returns as an early favorite for ACC Player of the Year. Braeden Shrewsberry, the son of the HC, averaged 10.2 ppg and had a strong second half of the season after a slow start. Tae Davis and J.R. Konieczny also are back as starters to the lineup.

Adding to the backcourt depth is Matt Allocco, a transfer guard from Princeton. He averaged 12.7 ppg and 3.3 apg and is part of the rare 50-40-90 shooting club. As a team, Notre Dame ranked around 300 nationally in 3PT% so Allocco is a nice boost.

The Irish do need frontcourt help, especially with Carey Booth transferring over to Illinois. Four-star forward Garrett Sundra could get some playing time as a freshman but expect the team to find a transfer for depth purposes.
