ACC Basketball: Way-too-early power rankings for 2024-25 season
15. Florida State Seminoles
2023-24 season record: 17-16 (10-10 ACC)
Historically, Coach Leonard Hamilton has always had one of the deeper rosters in NCAA Basketball, using a lot of depth. That’s going to be tested like none before since the top six players have left the team.
The most notable departure is Jamir Watkins, who led the team with 15.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, and 2.8 apg. He was the lone bright spot. He’s off to the NBA Draft, while the other guys, such as Cameron Corhen, Jalen Warley, and Primo Spears, entered the transfer portal.
The lone rotation pieces back are Chandler Jackson and Cam’Ron Flecther, who was limited to just seven games after another injury-plagued season. They did land a couple of solid forward pickups, starting with South Plains JUCO transfer, Malique Ewin (14.0 ppg and 9.0 rpg). Jerry Deng is a 6’9 forward from Hampton, coming off producing 10.1 ppg and 4.5 rpg as a freshman, starting 11 games.
FSU does have a solid incoming recruiting class, led by four-star commits, AJ Swinton and Daquan Davis. But on paper, Coach Hamilton has a ton of work to do to build the roster back up. They’ve had a couple of rough seasons by their standards and need some good pickups to turn the momentum around.
