Amir Abdur-Rahim

There were bigger names mentioned than Musselman when the Arkansas job was open in 2019, though few can complain about the progress that he experienced with the Razorbacks program. Abdur-Rahim isn’t exactly a name that jumps off the page, but much like Musselman he could be a sneaky good hire who’s accomplished quite a fair bit already in his career.

Abdur-Rahim is from Atlanta and played most of his college ball at Southeastern Louisiana. He spent over a decade as a collegiate assistant, including stints in the SEC at both Texas A&M and Georgia. His head coaching career began in style at Kennesaw State, transforming the Owls from a 1-win program to an NCAA Tournament team in four years flat. Perhaps even more impressively, Abdur-Rahim took over at South Florida this past season and won the AAC regular season title, scoring 25 wins with the Bulls.

Abdur-Rahim is undoubtedly a rising name in coaching circles, especially with these breakthrough seasons for two different programs the last two years. He’s not going to be one of the first choices for the Razorbacks but he’s an exciting candidate that will get a shot at a power conference team someday soon. Arkansas would not be settling, especially for someone with SEC experience and great coaching acumen.
