Niko Medved

We just mentioned how names like Pat Kelsey and May have already accepted head coaching jobs this offseason but that won’t keep us from looking at other prominent mid-major coaches. Medved is another name that’s been mentioned in recent years for these kids of jobs and perhaps Arkansas is the type of post he’s been waiting to open up.

Medved grew up in Minnesota and even spent time as an assistant with the Golden Gophers in the Big Ten. He spent over a decade down in South Carolina at Furman, returning in 2013 as the Paladins head coach. Medved engineered turnarounds in his first three head coaching jobs at Furman, Drake, and Colorado State. His Rams were in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years this season.

Medved certainly sits high up on the list of mid-major coaches with the potential to take power conference jobs in the near future, but is Arkansas really a match for him? He does have experience coaching and recruiting in this part of the country, but there’s no direct connection to him and the SEC or Arkansas. He’d certainly jump at the chance while the Razorbacks have a few more high-profile names they’d consider before getting Medved on the phone.
