Saint Louis Billikens - Grade: A+

The Billikens made the coaching move by replacing Travis Ford with Josh Schertz from Indiana State, who brought with him two top-tier transfers in guard Isaiah Swope and Robbie Avila, one of the best centers in the country. And while most of the roster left after the coaching change, Gibson Jimerson, who averaged 15.8 ppg on a career 40% shooting 3PT, was the one who came back.

Saint Louis also landed some key pieces to round out the roster. Kobe Johnson, Josiah Dotzler, and AJ Casey come from the power conference ranks, while Kalu Anya put up nearly 10 ppg at Brown as a capable forward. They have arguably the best trio in the A-10 and if nothing else, there’s now plenty of hope with the program going forward.

St. Bonaventure Bonnies - Grade: D

Between leading scorer Chad Venning transferring over to Boston College and everyone else either following suit or running out of eligibility, the Bonnies will have lost nearly 100% of its total production from last season. Only Noel Brown remains, joined by a cast filled with unproven, yet intriguing pieces from the portal.

St. Bonaventure is hoping that the JUCO transfers can have an impact, including forward Michael Folarin. Dasante Bowen comes from Iowa and could be the lead ball-handler, with Chance Moore (10.7 ppg at Missouri State) and Melvin Council (14.9 ppg at Wagner), the most accomplished newcomers on the roster. The Bonnies could’ve added more proven talent and it’s hard to see them staying in the top half of the league unless they found a hidden gem or two this offseason.
