12. George Washington Revolutionaries

2023-24 season record: 15-17 (4-14)

It wasn’t a great first year for GW with its new nickname, finishing last in the Atlantic 10 Basketball standings. That’s despite having four players who averaged 12+ ppg, including all-league guard and leading scorer, James Bishop. He’s gone, along with sophomore guard, Maximus Edwards.

The good news for the Revolutionaries is that the other two key starters are back and healthy. Darren Buchanan (15.6 ppg and 6.6 rpg) will be one of the top players in the conference, while Garrett Johnson (13.4 ppg and 5.6 rpg) is coming off a strong freshman campaign and will have an even larger role.

The two main storylines to watch for GW are defense and how they replace the massive production left behind by Bishop. Jacoi Hutchinson started 10 games as a freshman and could be the starting point guard, while the transfer additions of Trey Moss and Gerald Drumgoole Jr. will help on offense.

Replacing all-defensive center Babatunde Akingbola inside won’t be easy but Cornell transfer Sean Hansen and former Providence forward Rafael Castro gives them some depth. They’ll have to prove that they can make a jump out of the basement without Bishop but there are some building blocks in Johnson and Buchanan who alone gives them a chance.
