Atlantic Sun Basketball: In-depth look at Austin Peay star Sai Witt
By Bryan Mauro
Expectations for Sai Witt in 2024-25 season
The big man enters the year as one of the best players in the Atlantic Sun and is going to be a guy who lives up to the lofty expectations. He has a great post game and can finish around the rim. Witt is also going to be the go-to guy on the offensive end of the floor for Austin Peay and coach Gipson. Witt is also one of the most experienced players in the country as well. He enters the year as one of the oldest players in the country and has played a lot of winning basketball.
Every time I do one of these I try and focus on if the player can win the player of the year in the conference. The Atlantic Sun is loaded with individual talent and has a lot of guys who can win the Player of the Year. Witt is one of those players and with a good season is going to be there all year long. Coach Gipson is going to make sure that his game is the best it has ever been heading into the season to maximize the talent that Witt brings to the Governors and build off the momentum that Witt built at the end of the year.
The ultimate goal for the big man is to get his team to the NCAA tournament. It would be the first appearance for Austin Peay since the 2015-2016 season. There have been some great teams in Governors history since then especially when star Terry Taylor was playing but they could never get over the hump in the Ohio Valley.
The Atlantic Sun is a conference that Austin Peay can win this year and it is going to start and end with Witt, the Govs will go as Witt goes. The big man is going to play over 30 minutes for the first time at the Division 1 level. Will that affect his production?
