Big East Basketball: 2024 offseason grades for each team
Xavier Musketeers - Grade: A+
Like most of the other Big East Basketball teams, Xavier lost a good amount of production. Leading scorer Quincy Olivari ran out of eligibility, while sophomore star Desmond Claude transferred out to USC. Plus, young forwards Lazar Djokovic, Kachi Nzeh, and Gytis Nemeiksa all moved on as well.
However, Coach Sean Miller made sure that depth wouldn’t be an issue for next season. In the frontcourt, they added Oklahoma transfer John Hugley and Lassina Traore, who averaged a double-double at Long Beach State. More importantly, they’re set to get back all-league big man Zach Freemantle and Jerome Hunter, who each missed last season with health issues.
Point guard Dayvion McKnight is the lone key returning player, joined by several quality guard transfers. Dante Maddox, Marcus Foster, and Ryan Conwell all averaged 15+ ppg at their previous spots, while Cam’Ron Fletcher is a versatile wing transfer from FSU. Roddie Anderson was a starter at Boise State, giving them depth in the backcourt.
That doesn’t even include returning guards Trey Green and Dailyn Swain, two potential sophomore breakout candidates. For a team that finished under .500 last season and lost its two best scorers, it’s going to be difficult to find a program that had a better overall offseason in terms of roster building.
